UPDATED: WIGHTLINK, RED JET AND HOVERTRAVEL CANCEL SERVICES AMID TRIO OF ISSUES
Mechanical issues and adverse weather are affecting foot passenger services to and from Ryde this afternoon (Tuesday), with both Wightlink’s Fastcat and Hovertravel’s services suspended.
Cross-Solent operator Wightlink says that a mechanical issue has led to the cancellation of the 14:15, 15:15, 16:15 and 17:15 sailings from Portsmouth, and the 14:45, 15:45, 16:45 and 17:45 sailings from Ryde Pier Head.
In short, the Fastcat operation is suspended for the remainder of the afternoon. It remains to be seen if issues will continue into this evening.
Meanwhile, Hovertravel has also suspended its operation between Ryde and Southsea, due to the adverse weather conditions on the Solent.
Wightlink is advising customers to use the car ferry service to and from Fishbourne. However, a shuttle bus is not being put into operation. Instead, taxi fares will be refunded.
UPDATE @ 15:58 – Wightlink has now cancelled the 18:15 sailing from Portsmouth and the 18:45 sailing from Ryde Pier Head as well, as engineers continue to resolve the issue.
Red Funnel has announced that it has also had to cancel a number of sailings on its hi-speed Red Jet service, due to essential maintenance to a critical item of equipment.
The 15:35, 16:45 and 17:55 sailings from Southampton have all been cancelled, as have the 16:10, 17:20 and 18:30 sailings from West Cowes.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY – All services have returned to the advertised timetables.
