UPDATED: 6 FERRY SAILINGS CANCELLED ON MAJOR WIGHTLINK ROUTE DUE TO SICKNESS

Wightlink has been forced to cancel 6 of its car ferry sailings on the Fishbourne-Portsmouth route this morning (Wednesday).

The cross-Solent ferry operator says that unexpected crew sickness has led to the decision to cancel 3 sailings from Fishbourne, and another 3 from Portsmouth Gunwharf.

It’s said that efforts to arrange cover at short notice, to maintain a planned timetable, have been unsuccessful.

It’s been confirmed that the 06:40, 08:40 and 10:40 sailings from Portsmouth, as well as the 07:40, 09:40 and 11:40 sailings from Fishbourne, have all been pulled.

A spokesperson for Wightlink has said:

“We understand how disruptive this can be and are contacting affected customers on these sailings with revised travel information and support options.

“Thank you for your understanding and patience, we’re working hard to minimise the impact and get things back on track as quickly as possible”.

UPDATE @ 08:13 – Wightlink has been able to reinstate both the 10:40 sailing from portsmouth and the 11:40 sailing from Fishbourne, having sourced very short notice cover.
