CHRISTMAS EVE CROSS-SOLENT TRAVEL HIT BY BAD WEATHER AND BREAKDOWNS

Those heading home for Christmas – or perhaps getting in some last minute shopping – are facing significant travel disruption this lunchtime (Christmas Eve) due to suspension of services and cancellations for Wightlink, Red Funnel and Hovertravel.

Due to the adverse weather conditions, namely strong winds and tides, Hovertravel has suspended its Ryde-Southsea service. It’s said that an update will be provided at 13:45, but this is no guarantee that services will resume at that time.

Tickets are being accepted on Wightlink’s Fastcat service, although the competitor company is facing its own issues today. An earlier breakdown led to the cancellation of at least 1 sailing, although it appears things are back up and running to timetable now.

meanwhile, Red Funnel has been forced to suspend its hi-speed Red Jet services between West Cowes-Southampton due to the weather conditions. This is until further notice, with an update expected at around 14:30.
